Weather Takes Two From Ocala

by BJ Cavin

For the second week in a row the rain has caused problems with the schedule at Ocala Speedway. Heavy rain during the early afternoon soaked the track and more rain was expected, so speedway owner Mike Peters decided to cancel racing. Peters said that at least a couple of late model drivers had contacted him about the weather because they had a long trip in order to come to the track, and he possibly was feeling a little guilty over waiting to cancel racing last week, and having a rainout happen at 7:30PM.

Canceling the night’s activities early is always a risk because the rains may stop, but at least it prevents everyone from traveling to the speedway for nothing as was the case the previous week.

Peters says all wrist bands and ticket stubs from last week’s rainout will be honored on September 7th. The 3rd Annual Outhouse race will also be run on the 7th, along with the 4 Cylinder Stock, Thunder Stock, V8 Pure Stock, Street Stock, Sportsman, and Open Wheel Modified divisions. The night will be capped off with the return of the Figure 8 cars.
