Nature Wins At Ocala

by BJ Cavin

At 3 PM Ocala Speedway owner Mike Peters had a gut feeling that things might not go well even though the weather radar showed clearing skies on the way. The rain stopped, the track staff went out in everything from wreckers to their personal cars and dried the track, and hot laps went off without a hitch.

Then during the drivers meeting the ominous ting of rain drops began on the tech shed roof, and by the time the meeting was over the rain had moved in for good.

It never rained heavily, but just enough to make racing impossible. All fans were advised to keep their tickets stubs and all drivers to hold onto their wrist bands. They will be your rain check for racing on August 31st, when the 3rd Annual Ocala Speedway Outhouse Race will run.

Also next week the late models return, along with 4 Cylinder Stocks, Thunder Stocks, V8 Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, and Sportsman cars. The Figure 8 race rained out this weekend may be run as the last feature on Friday as well. An announcement about the Figure 8 race will be made later in the week.
