Dillon Wood Wins In Spectacular Fashion at Ocala

By Jack Smith

The 43 laps of green flag racing on the 3/8 mile Ocala Speedway had the fans breathless, but what was to follow was completely off the charts.

Ivedent Lloyd took the lead from Dillon Wood on lap 19, and despite challenges from Johnny Collins and Keith Nosbisch, it appeared the former Ocala track champion and crowd favorite was going to take the first leg of the All Star Championship.

A caution with 4 laps to go, brought out by Mark Whitener’s spin into the turn 3 wall, set the stage for the most dramatic finish in UDLMCS history. Dillon Wood was sitting in fourth behind Lloyd, Nosbisch and Collins when the green flag signaled the restart. By the last lap Wood had caught the leader, drove on the outside through turns 3 and 4, and swung the Bearden Oil/Power PokerClub.com sponsored #26 along the wall, outracing Lloyd to the checkered flag by less than a car length.

This was Dillon Wood’s first United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series win.
